Manchester United have several priorities to meet in this summer transfer window.

The story is not relatively unknown to all, there was interest amongst the European powerhouses for whom the footballing world know as one of the best young centre-halves, another glittering prospect of Red Bull football project, and maybe a world-class-prodigy-in-the-making.

Manchester United fans were shivering in excitement; they had finally signed a player, a talented prospect in Donny van de Beek for what, in recent times, would be regarded as a bargain — United believingly paid Ajax £40m (including add-ons and bonuses).

The buzz around the recently-finalised deal did get vaporised much sooner than it was initially anticipated, as United have reportedly found their new target, and media publications have started adding oil so that the rumour mill could work much more efficiently.

More from Red Devil Armada

It was previously believed that Manchester United were looking to snap up a left-footed centre-back. However, considering the recent developments surrounding the Mancunian club’s transfer activities, it seems more likely than ever that club is in the hunt for a genuine, top-rated central defender — where the argument over the foot doesn’t exist.

According to the reports emerged from The Times (subscription needed), Manchester United are hopeful of making a move for RB Leipzig’s 21-year-old centre-back Dayot Upamecano, who had before been linked with a move to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, and many other top European sides, after concluding the deal for Donny van de Beek.

The reports of Upamecano potentially making a move to Old Trafford this summer have already made the Red Devils’ fans crazy, though it is understood that Solskjaer might face some hurdle along the way, with Upamecano signed his latest contract renewal with the German club as late as 31st July.

And hence, RB Leipzig’s official twitter account come forward to remind United fans what the term ‘contract renewal’ actually means, posting the same video as they did when the French centre-back had signed his recent 3-year extension with the club that reached UEFA Champions League semi-final only to face a 3-0 defeat to PSG at the very stage last season.

Manchester United’s principal negotiator Matt Judge have had received the deserving plaudits due to his fast and effective negotiating process during the Van de Beek deal. And should that be the case for Dayot Upamecano, anything is possible in today’s world that has been confronting the financial conundrum owing to the coronavirus pandemic on a regular basis.

The aforementioned report suggests that Manchester United have been in talks with German club over a potential deal for Upamecano, who understandably has a release clause of €42m, which is equivalent to around £37.5m. However, it is widely spread that the fresh release clause would be in place next year.

Amidst this ongoing financial crisis, most teams continue to stable some finance in every possible way. And for RB Leipzig, knowing that they could buy a replacement for a cheaper price due to their illustrious Red Bull scouting network, garnering some much-needed funds for the worst-case scenario by offloading some big names would be a viable reason for the German side to follow the road and conclude the deal as quickly as possible. And if United somehow manage to get the move over the line, the summer transfer window would certainly remember the Manchester-based for the daring deeds.
