Manchester United are on verge of something big this summer.

As they say, it should be either a hit or a miss — there is no value of things hanging in the middle in today’s world. The summer transfer window always brings some uncertainties, along with numerous speculations, of course, to surprise the football fans around the globe.

And, as one might have expected, the 2020 summer transfer window has not saddened the fanatics of transfer rumours across the planet.

Observing the ongoing transfer saga of the Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho and the continuing tug of war between Manchester United and the German club has been some joy to watch so far for the neutral fans, amidst this current climate where every day hundreds and thousands of people are dying from COVID-19 pandemic.

The transfer saga itself saw a splendid turnaround last weekend when Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc went on to speak out that Dortmund could see Sancho playing for them next season, confirming:

"“We plan on having Jadon Sancho in our team this season, the decision is final. I think that answers all our questions.“Last summer, we adjusted Jadon’s salary to match the development of his performances."

Overwhelmingly enthusiastic Manchester United zealots felt the utter shock when Zorc kept on saying, “So in context, we had already extended his contract until 2023 back then.”

So Jadon Sancho is tied with the German club until 2023, meaning Dortmund are now on the driving seat of the deal. Manchester United, on the other hand, are asked to pay a jaw-dropping amount of €120 million if they want the signature of the 20-year-old Englishman.

In the middle of the financial conundrum — one of the ill effects of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, paying such a huge price on one player could undoubtedly make perspiration drop form one’s forehead much quicker and thicker, especially when it is the time of scorching summer heat.

Man in the mission for Manchester United Ed Woodward has already made significant progress on the deal, with Jadon Sancho’s personal terms reportedly being agreed by the club. However, the question remains with the structure of the deal.

Manchester United want to pay the whole amount within three years through instalments (reports claim United want to structure the deal in the following way: €70m in the first year + €20m in the second year + €10m in the third year respectively), while Dortmund are not reportedly happy with the valuation of €70m initial fee. It is thought that Dortmund would love an initial fee of €90 million, which Manchester United are not ready to meet. Hence, a chaotic and unpredictable situation has aroused surrounding this deal.

Dortmund are adamant that United will have to kneel in front of them by paying the demanded price if they are to sign Sancho. Otherwise, the doors are open for the Mancunian club to walk out of the deal.

With Dortmund presenting United with such kind of take-it-or-leave-it offer, the deal seems very unlikely to happen this summer. And with a feeling of unpredictability blossoming inside the English camp that the deal may fall apart in pieces, Manchester United are reportedly considering taking a look at other options.

According to the report from Manchester Evening News (via Express Sport), Manchester United could hijack Chelsea’s move for Kai Havertz at the last moment. Just like the situation between Manchester United and Sancho, Chelsea have been showing their interest in Havertz for god knows how long.

Like Sancho, Havertz is regarded as one of the brightest talents present in Bundesliga. However, securing a transfer for Havertz, who amassed 12 goals and 6 assists from 30 Bundesliga appearances in 2019-20 season, could prove to be easier compared to that of Sancho as the former’s contract with his current club Bayer Leverkusen is set to run out in June 2022.

Therefore, Leverkusen are asking for a price around €90 million for the prodigy, with Havertz making it clear that he wants a move to Premeir League this summer owing to the fact that the Bundesliga side have failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Stories suggest that Chelsea want to pay only €70 million. Nonetheless, Manchester United’s budding interest could help Leverkusen start a bidding war over their 21-year-old creative playmaker. There is no way out for Manchester United from this muddy condition as they will have to add quality strength to their roster. Only time will tell how and what they do to protect their gigantic status in the reaming two months of the transfer period.
