Despite Manchester United enjoying prolific form, Solskjaer is keen to add competition.

After a plethora of goals scored in the past few games, it would be easy to forget how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s XI struggled to find purpose in their attack when Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were unavailable at different junctures owing to injuries.

Thankfully, since the arrival of Odion Ighalo from Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, United manager has been able to protect his forwards from being knackered and also tweak his tactics when needed.

But, given Odion Ighalo’s contribution to be short-termed, with his loan term expiring in January 2021, Manchester United’s transfer committee has started to monitor players who could be a long-term fit for the club alongside Martial and Rashford.

Despite a prolific return from his strikers, the manager is keen to instil fierce competition for starting spots, which prevailed during his playing days at United- as Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham, and Solskjaer fought for two starting spots upfront.

Notwithstanding Ighalo’s impact at Old Trafford with his mentality and hard work, the Nigerian doesn’t belong to the world-class ilk, which could elevate United’s goalscoring levels by a notch.

In a bid to match the standards set by Manchester City and Liverpool in recent seasons, Solskjaer envisages attack as an important area to invest in the upcoming transfer windows. It would also allow Mason Greenwood to mature at his own pace away from bearing the goalscoring load.

Erling Haaland, who chose Dortmund over the Stretford outfit citing better environment to hone his skills, was considered to be a prime target to lead the attack for Solskjaer’s side, with the pair previously working together at Molde.

As things stand, Man United are scouring alternatives as Haaland is set to stay at least till the summer of 2021- the point from where striker’s sell-on clause could be activated.

With that being said, let glance through four options who could be a good fit for Manchester United.
