According to the latest reports, Manchester United are scouting a surprising candidate to replace Paul Pogba at Old Trafford in the summer window.

The story of Paul Pogba and Manchester United has been a roller-coaster ride so far. The midfield maestro joined the Mancunian side for the second time in his career in 2016 from Juventus for a then-record transfer fee of £89.3 million.

While Pogba had to endure a bitter time during his boyhood days at the club, everyone at the Stretford End expected something new and exciting from the matured prodigy. Especially with a successful manager like Jose Mourinho at the helm. Things were looking bright at Old Trafford.

In his first campaign under Mourinho, Pogba went on to win the EFL Cup and UEFA Europa League, garnering 9 goals and 6 assists across all competitions.

And some would still remember – just after thrashing Ajax in the final of UEFA Europa League, how Paul Pogba ran to hug his manger and showcased his gratitude towards Mourinho in his post-match interview. Pogba was a happy man then.

However, time soon came to bite off a healthy player-manager relationship as Pogba started to vocally display his anger towards Mourinho’s brash tactics both on and off the pitch.

As per the reports surrounding the club, Pogba was determined to help his team offensively while Mourinho wanted Pogba to focus on his defensive duties.

The scenario became from bad to worse when Mourinho publicly called Pogba ‘a virus‘.

Though, it seemed as if Pogba’s departure would eventually put an end to that feud. In reality, a terrible run of results saw Mourinho face the sack. To some aspects that temporarily saved the Frenchman’s United career.

Pogba has enjoyed a resurgence under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, having racked up 11 goals and 10 assists from 39 appearances in all competitions.

Yet, the talks of him leaving Manchester United are unlikely to stop anytime soon, with Manchester United conveying a tumultuous relationship with super-agent Mino Raiola.

Tutto Mercato has recently published an article where they have claimed that Manchester United have been scouting Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot for a while now. The report also suggests United have sent their scouts to watch Adrien Rabiot play four times in total this season.

Following his arrival to Turin last summer, Rabiot has not made any serious impact on the Old Lady’s performance. The 25-year-old French midfielder has made 25 appearances across all competition for Juventus this term, having played no part in scoring goals or producing assist.

We all know that Rabiot is an excellent player as he did single-handedly help PSG win matches so many times during his days at the Parc des Princes.

On the other hand, Pogba has been reportedly monitored by the heavyweights like Real Madrid, Juventus, and Inter Milan. Should Pogba leave Man United in the upcoming summer, Rabiot could fill his spot as Ole Gunnar Solskjær is desperate to find a box-to-box midfielder, who could be the bridge between Bruno Fernandes and the defensive mid.
