Manchester United have a plethora of deadwood they need to get rid of in the summer, however their number one priority should be this major flop.

The excitement. The sheer pleasure. The pandemonium outside Old Trafford. The frenzy which welcomed Alex Sanchez’s transfer from Arsenal to Manchester United was relentless. The Red Devils faithful had not witnessed such a major coup for over a decade and social media was wild with United fans boasting about their new arrival.

The Chilean’s transfer was meant to herald a new dynasty at Old Trafford. The Red Devils reportedly beat arch rivals Manchester City for Sanchez’s services. It was proof the club was back to its best.

And the excitement was wholly justified. Alex Sanchez was one of the finest players in the Premier League at the time. His silky moves and deadly finishing made him a fan favourite at the Emirates.

The Arsenal fans were left shaken by Sanchez’s departure. Having scored 24 goals in the previous Premier League season they had just given their arch rivals a major boost.

Therefore, United fans could hardly be blamed for their frantic excitement.

However, unfortunately it would be the Arsenal fans who would have the last laugh.

Things quickly soured.

Alexis Sanchez was a shadow of him self in a Red Devils crest. The Chilean played like a headless chicken and he struggled to break into Mourinho’s rigid system at Old Trafford.

His failure to rekindle his form from his heyday at Arsenal only merited him ridicule on social media.

After a torrid full season at Old Trafford Sanchez was shipped out on loan to Inter Milan last summer.

Yet even at Inter, Sanchez is not the man he once was.

Right now he is a hefty asset at Old Trafford sucking out finite resources from the club in ample amounts as he is one of the highest earners at United.

It is clear he is not good enough for the Red Devils and he is not in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s future plans.

In the summer the Red Devils must do everything in their power to ensure Sanchez departs for pastures new and he doesn’t burden the club any longer.
