Manchester United: Solskjaer on the brink of signing another midfielder

According to reports the Manchester United boss is close to completing yet another midfield signing after Bruno Fernandes in the January window.

Look at any Manchester United game this season. What do you notice? Crippling results, sometimes great bursts of pace and hapless defending, sure. But if one looks more closely something much more evident begins to bubble up to the surface.

The Manchester United midfield is spineless. Far too often this season they have been run rugged by the opposition and have played without any real tangible presence on the field. Often times the midfielders have been non-existent for the Red Devils.

It is a crisis which is beginning to grow more and more obvious for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian’s defence is slowly starting to gel, the attack has the tendency to be stupendous, yet the midfield is lacking in depth and quality.

The players at Solskjaer’s disposal are either ageing veterans or mediocre academy products, barring the exception of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, but the pair have been out injured for some time now.

That has left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seriously lacking in options. Whilst the Norwegian has done everything so far to ensure the signing of Bruno Fernandes it seems the Portuguese star isn’t the only midfielder who could come to Old Trafford in the January transfer window.

According to Sky Sports via the Daily Mail the Red Devils are in ‘negotiation’ with the French outlet Lille over the signing of Boubakary Soumare.

Boubakary Soumare is a 20 year old holding midfielder who has impressed in the Champions League and Ligue One this season for the French outfit.

He is highly energetic with long legs and clever positional awareness. He is excellent and composed on the ball too and strong in the tackle. His style is reminiscent of current Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi.

Boubakary Soumare could be a great addition to the Manchester United squad. He is still young, full of energy and he could be man to spark the Red Devils into gear.
