The Manchester United boss has been a long term admirer of the hugely exciting prospect and it seems he has finally won the race for the star.
Old Trafford stands in the shadows of Manchester United’s arch rivals at the moment. Both the Etihad of Manchester City and Anfield of Liverpool towers over the Red Devils’ stadium. For years the Old Trafford faithful have been tormented by images of their rivals reaching finals, winning trophies whilst the club ebb to and from mediocrity.
It is a pattern which current manager and former club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to break in the upcoming years. His first year at the club has been one of transformation and rebuilding and the Norwegian boss is still putting his pieces together at Old Trafford.
It hasn’t always been successful, and Manchester United have suffered some set-backs in the past year but there have been signs and moments of great promise. It seems only a few vital pieces of the jigsaw remain for the club to be back to competing with their rivals yet again.
In Leicester City’s James Maddison, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have already found one of the final pieces of the puzzle. The young English midfielder is one of the brightest creative sparks in the Premier League at the moment and creativity is exactly what Solskjaer lacks in his current Manchester United team.
Add to that James Maddison’s pace and ability to score goals as well as the fact that he was a boyhood Manchester United fan, it seems the current Leicester City midfielder was destined to sign for United.
According to the Metro Manchester United are ‘confident’ of signing James Maddison, meanwhile the Daily Star have reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made Maddison his ‘number one target’ and that suggestions of Maddison signing a new contract at Leicester are ‘wide off the mark.’
Such reports will give Manchester United more encouragement in their pursuit and it is a suggestion that a deal could be edging closer and closer.
James Maddison could be a hugely exciting arrival at Old Trafford and one that can change the entire club’s fortunes around.
What do you think will James Maddison be a good signing for Manchester United?
