Paul Pogba will reportedly leave Manchester United this summer. Could Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans be the man to replace him at Old Trafford?

Manchester United are interested in signing Youri Tielemans this summer as a replacement for Paul Pogba, according to reports.

Spanish outlet Marca has reported that Pogba is keen on a move to Real Madrid and that Zinedine Zidane is determined to make the transfer happen.

It is unclear whether United will be able to get back the £89million they paid Juventus to bring the midfielder back to Old Trafford.

However, they are expected to receive a substantial fee from Madrid nonetheless, which will help them acquire a replacement before the window closes.

According to Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to sign Tielemans this summer should Pogba end up leaving for the La Liga club.

United reportedly made contact with Monaco earlier this summer to see if they were prepared to let their midfielder go, and a transfer fee of £40million was being discussed.

If this is true, then Tielemans would be a steal. The Belgium international would cost half as much as we’d get for selling Pogba, meaning we’d have money left over to sign another player as well.

Although the unusually low transfer fee Monaco are asking for their star player suggests that they don’t value him all that much, this is not in fact the case.

The Ligue 1 side are in a dire situation right now, with so many holes in the squad that they were almost on the verge of being relegated last season.

Therefore, the £40million price tag – £10million less than what we paid Shakhtar Donetsk for Fred last summer – merely reflects Monaco’s desperation to acquire funds to sign more players.

So make no mistake, although Tielemans’s fee is low, he would easily end up being the best midfielder at United – should Pogba indeed leave this summer.

The 22-year-old already has experience in the Premier League as well, having spent the latter half of last season on loan to Leicester City, so he wouldn’t even need time to settle in.

Next. Goodbye, Romelu Lukaku. Manchester United won’t miss you. dark

Signing Youri Tielemans for £40million could just be the best bit of business any Premier League club will do this summer.
