Manchester United take on Cardiff today in the final game of the 2018/19 season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has promised to give minutes to some young Reds, but who will make his starting XI?

David de Gea would have been happy with his performance against Huddersfield, making a great one-on-one save in the first half. He should and will be in goal for the final game of the season.

Today’s match also provides Solskjaer with a chance to look to the future, therefore a number of young players should start. It will be great to give Antonio Valencia a deserving goodbye but coming off the bench is the fitting way to do so with Diogo Dalot starting.

Ander Herrera should also get a send-off for his five years service, but once again shouldn’t start. Scott McTominay, James Garner and Paul Pogba would be my midfield trio with Garner the deeper of the three.

Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood have all been included in the squad ahead of the match and I do think Solskjaer should give opportunities to these lads before the season draws to close. For me, Greenwood deserves is chance after producing so regularly at every age group he has played in this campaign, alongside Lingard and Chong.

Against Cardiff City at home, De Gea has a chance to end the season on a high by keeping a clean sheet – which will hopefully give him some much-needed confidence going into the summer break.

Although Valencia could be getting a final send-off at Old Trafford, we should play it safe and start with Young and bring the Ecuadorian on at the end if United have the lead.

Herrera should also have a chance to say his goodbyes to the fans after his five-year service at the club, and he’ll hope to cap it off with a signature box-to-box performance.

Although Solskjaer has a chance to play a front three made entirely of youngsters, he should only start Chong for now, and bring Gomes or Greenwood off the bench if he can.
