RANKED: Which out of contract players should Manchester United offer new deals to NOW!
By Ollie Slack
6. Phil Jones
Sir Alex Ferguson once said Phil Jones, “could be our best ever player.” Yes, you read that right! In fairness to the great man, Phil Jones was looking a decent bet for a future United stalwart at centre-back in 2013.
However, injuries have plagued the Englishman’s career and at unfortunate times too. Even recently, he looked to be revived under Jose Mourinho when he partnered Eric Bailly at the back and played in United’s first eleven games of the 2017/18 season.
Gareth Southgate also hailed him as England’s best centre-half nine months prior to the 2018 World Cup, but, reoccurring hamstring injuries throughout the season meant he was included in the squad for Russia but only played a bit part role.
New contract? NO – talented and wholehearted player but time to cut ties as he’s too injury prone.
