Alexis Sanchez’s ridiculous wages are causing trouble at Manchester United. Here’s why

Alexis Sanchez is stealing a living at Manchester United – and it appears that more important players at the club are not happy about it.

Since arriving at Manchester United from Arsenal in January of last year, Alexis Sanchez has been a disappointment.

In his 32 games for United so far, Sanchez has only managed to net four goals and register nine assists – immensely underwhelming figures for a player of his calibre.

Worse still, it has been reported that the Chile international is the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

According to The Telegraph, Sanchez is earning a whopping £350,000 a week, rising to £500,000 a week when taking into account bonuses and image rights.

This is an insane amount of money for a player that hasn’t been performing nearly as well as he did at Arsenal and Barcelona.

And it seems that other star players at Manchester United are starting to take issue with this.

Indeed, it has been reported that one thing that is stalling David de Gea’s contract negotiations is the fact that the goalkeeper wants to be earning the same salary as Sanchez or even higher, as he sees himself as a more important player for the club.

This sentiment is shared by Paul Pogba also, who wants to renegotiate his contract so that he can be the club’s highest earner, which is justified, considering how well the midfielder has been performing in recent games and the fact that he is a World Cup winner now.

Failure to heed to de Gea and Pogba’s demands could see arguably United’s two best players force a move elsewhere in order to receive fairer wages.

This begs the question: is Sanchez really worth all this trouble?

The answer from any sane fan would be a resounding no.

The departure of de Gea and Pogba must be stopped at any cost, and if it takes Sanchez to leave in order to satisfy the players and create a more cohesive squad, I’m all for it.
