PREDICTED STARTING XI’s: RDA writers pick their predicted lineups for Manchester United’s massive game against Arsenal!
By Ollie Slack
Manchester United host one of the fiercest rivals tonight at Old Trafford, Arsenal. And with Jose Mourinho’s job hanging by a thread, who will he pick to start? Here are the RDA writers predicted lineups.
Ali Akbar
David De Gea
Diogo Dalot, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw
Fred, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba
Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial
Since Ashley Young is injured, Dalot will probably step in at right-back to finally make his Premier League debut, with Jones filling in for the injured Victor Lindelof next to him.
Although Matic looks like he needs a rest, Mourinho is likely to stick by his man, with Fred being brought in to help Pogba out with creating chances from midfield.
Lukaku finally ended his goal drought on the weekend, so he should keep his place up top, with Martial and Rashford either side of him in support – a front three Mourinho likes to play against the big

David De Gea
Diogo Dalot, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw
Marouane Fellaini, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba
Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial
It’s a difficult time for Mourinho, and it’s hard to predict his teams at the moment. Chris Smalling is a doubt, so Rojo may slot in alongside Jones.
Shaw is also a slight doubt, but I think he’ll retain his place.
Fred doesn’t seem to be in Mourinho’s initial plans, so don’t be surprised to see Fellaini, Matic and Pogba in the midfield.
The energetic running of Lingard could be crucial with Lukaku up front, who will be happy to have got a goal against Southampton. Martial, who came off the bench this past weekend, could start too.

David De Gea
Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw
Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Marouane Fellaini
Jesse Lingard
Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford
With so much riding on such a big game, I expect Jose Mourinho not to take any risks and go back to his tried and tested. Therefore Antonio Valencia gets the nod over Dalot with Young suspended too.
I think the way Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw’s respective injuries pre and post the Southampton game on Saturday showed Mourinho does not want to chance anything and I expect both to back today.
Paul Pogba misses out simply due to the fact he gave the ball away countless times against the Saints and judging by his manager’s quotes, he was not happy about it. Herrera will start and probably be asked to do a job on someone.
And finally, this was a tough call. I’ve excluded Anthony Martial for two reasons. One, Marcus Rashford was the star man against Southampton. And two, because I think Mourinho will want to play with one behind the strikers ready of the counter like United did at the Emirates last season. The best person for that is Jesse Lingard. But don’t be surprised if they all start!
