PLAYER RATINGS: Scores of FIVE after Manchester United’s stalemate with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford

Defenders
Ashley Young – 6
The 33-year-old moved to left-back after Luke Shaw was unavailable due to suspension. We really missed not having a natural left footer in that position, as Young would take forever to cross the ball, as he kept having to shift it onto his right foot. He should stick to playing at right-back from now on…
Victor Lindelof – 7
The Sweden international has really turned his United career around over these last few games. He stopped everything that came into his box and was great at playing the ball out from the back. Even when he was injured and clearly struggling in the last few minutes, Lindelof stayed on and managed to stop a counterattack while limping the whole time. Warrior.
Chris Smalling – 6
Although not his best game in a United shirt, Smalling was nevertheless solid at the back for most of the game. However, I’d like to see him try a little harder in attacking set-pieces, as he very nearly scored if only he was more alert in the box.
Matteo Darmian – 7
Darmian made his first appearance of the season but it did not show at all. He won all three of his tackles in defence and put some great balls into the box for the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini. Still, we’d like to see Diogo Dalot at right-back soon, so the Italian may be relegated to the bench once more.
