PLAYER RATINGS: Scores of FIVE after Manchester United’s stalemate with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford
By Ali Akbar
Manchester United’s poor start to the season continues after Jose Mourinho’s men are held to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford by Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace. Find out how each player fared in our ratings below.
Well, that was a snoozefest.
In my match preview, I rather optimistically stated that if Manchester United played on the front foot at Old Trafford, we could easily win this game 3-0 or even 4-0.
How naive of me.
The 0-0 draw wasn’t even down to the fact that United didn’t attack constantly. We actually did – it’s just that we attacked badly.
There was no plan on how to dismantle this Crystal Palace side. We just kept pumping the ball up to our forwards hoping something would stick, and the few solid chances we did get, we simply squandered.
What makes the draw even harder to stomach is the fact that, while we were struggling at home, Manchester City managed yet another 4-0 win this season away from home against West Ham United.
Let’s face it – United are miles behind Pep Guardiola’s side. If we can’t beat a side that’s 16th in the league then we are well and truly doomed this season.

Goalkeeper
David de Gea – 7
Thank the Heavens – a clean sheet at last! Although I would be much happier if United had actually scored, I’m nevertheless pleased that our Spaniard finally managed not to concede for once. Not that he’s been to blame this season – de Gea has worked tirelessly to help his teammates out, and now, he has finally been rewarded.
