Jose Mourinho should not extend Ashley Young’s Manchester United contract!

Reports suggest that Jose Mourinho is looking to extend Ashley Young’s Manchester United contract, which is currently set to expire at the end of the season. The fans cannot allow this to happen!
According to a report by Simon Stone at BBC Sport, Jose Mourinho is eager to hand Ashley Young a one-year contract extension at Manchester United before the end of the season.
Cue a collective groan by all self-respecting Manchester United fans.
Look, I know Young has been a great servant to the club. Since joining from Aston Villa for £17m in 2011, the Englishman has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League and more.
Although he began his career at Old Trafford as a winger, in recent years the 33-year-old has mostly played at fullback, showing that he is a very versatile footballer indeed.
However, in doing so, the former winger is taking valuable game time away from younger, more promising players.
Take Diogo Dalot for instance. Jose Mourinho signed the 19-year-old from Porto for £19m in the summer, which made fans very excited to see a natural right-back play for United for once.
However, we’re still waiting for the youngster to make his Premier League debut for the club. And why’s that the case? Because the manager likes to play it safe and deploy Young at right-back.
Letting him go at the end of the season would solve this problem once and for all. Yes, we’d be losing an experienced player. But his departure would force Mourinho to play youngsters like Dalot – helping them to gain valuable experience so that they can realise their full potential.
Apparently, Young’s contract negotiations are at still an early stage. Do the right thing, Jose, and throw the paperwork out of the window. Embrace the United way and trust youth!
Do you agree that Jose Mourinho should let Ashley Young’s contract run out at the end of the season? Or should we at the least keep the 33-year-old as a squad player? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
