3 things Manchester United must take from Juventus win into the Manchester derby!
By Ollie Slack
Manchester United defeated Juventus on Wednesday night in the Champions League and today they face an equally as tough opponent. So how should Jose Mourinho approach the game? Here are three things United must take from their win in Turin, into the derby.
Composed on the ball
If Manchester United try and sit in and dig deep for the whole match, it’s going to feel like a long 90 minutes. And against this City side, they won’t be able to withstand the pressure.
Even Romelu Lukaku has struggled to hold the ball up in recent weeks, if Sanchez can replicate his performance against Juventus and keep the ball well, United will have a much better chance at being in the game.
Fast start
I believe Manchester United need to get a foothold in the game early on. Falling behind to City could be curtains. Yes, United were able to come back from a 2-0 deficit last season, but if you believe Pep Guardiola will allow that to happen again, I think you’ll be mistaken.
If Jose Mourinho’s side can take that positive start from Turin to the Etihad today, then not only will United be more in the game but it will help silence the crowd.
Must be clinical
Manchester United have to take their chances. They were clinical in the week, scoring two goals from their three shots on target and with the possibility of getting as fewer chances today, United’s forward line needs to be on their best form.
This is why I believe Mourinho will opt for a more experienced front three in Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata to partner the red-hot Anthony Martial, as the Spaniard and Chilean have produced in big games in the past.
