What the manager had to say before the game

In his pre-match press conference, Jose Mourinho was asked if he was going to set his team up to go toe-to-toe with Manchester City. He replied: “We are going to try.

"“I cannot say we are going to be successful in our motivations, in our desire, but we played two different matches away against two very good teams, Cheslea and Juventus, and we managed to get good results, and even if the good results were not in our pockets, the performances were there. “The positive attitude was there so we are going to try but you are right, Manchester City are a very powerful team.” [MEN]"

The Portuguese also had this to say about United’s tendency to concede first before coming back to win games:

"“If we keep conceding goals before the opportunity there will be a day where we cannot come back. “So we have to grow up in our approach, because is clear the team is growing up, but we have to grow up in our compactness and start matches well.” [MEN]"

Although we the fans love a good comeback, it’s reassuring to hear that the manager is keeping his head on his shoulders and realises that conceding first is never a good thing, and although it has been working for us so far, it could come back to haunt us…
