Jose Mourinho has saved his Manchester United career – for now
By Ali Akbar
Manchester United pulled off the unthinkable when they came back to defeat Juventus on their own turf in the Champions League. Although Jose Mourinho is far from perfect, there is no chance he will leave the club before the end of the season after that performance.
Manchester United have become the Comeback Kings under Jose Mourinho this season.
First Newcastle United, then Bournemouth and now the mighty Juventus. The Red Devils looked like a completely different side after going one or even two-nil down against these sides.
However, Mourinho’s men haven’t always managed to mount a comeback after trailing this season, as the Brighton & Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United games have sadly shown.
Make no mistake – this season has overall been a disastrous one for United so far. Look no further than our woeful league position, which currently stands at 7th in the table after 11 games with a goal difference of just one.
Nevertheless, our recent run of victories, especially the shocking 2-1 win against Juventus in Turin, have somewhat calmed the storm that has engulfed Old Trafford this season. Much has been said about the future of Jose Mourinho’s managerial career at Manchester United, but now we can finally put those rumours to bed.
Yes, you heard me right – the Portuguese is not going anywhere this season.
Many fans and pundits had already begun to put together their lists of managers who should replace Mourinho before the end of the season – but these were extremely premature.
Morale in the United camp is the highest its been all season. Sacking Mourinho now would make no sense at all and would only just bring back the doom and gloom that has surrounded the club for the past few months.
The comeback against Juventus will surely be the catalyst these United players need in order to turn this season around – which should keep Mourinho at the club a little while longer.
Now, things could all change when we face bitter rivals Manchester City this weekend. Although we came back after going 2-0 down to win 3-2 last season, I doubt we’ll be able to pull off another miracle this time around. A heavy defeat at the Etihad could see question marks over Mourinho’s tenure resurface.
Until then, we should stop speculating over the Portuguese’s future. Jose Mourinho is still our manager and likely will be until the end of the season at the very least.
Get behind the boss, and you never know, he might just surprise us with some silverware at the end of the season.
Do you agree that Jose Mourinho should stay until the end of the season? Or should we try and find a replacement as soon as possible? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
