PLAYER RATINGS: Scores of 8 after Manchester United’s late comeback against Bournemouth in the Premier League
By Ali Akbar
Defence
Luke Shaw – 7
Shaw was as solid as ever going forward. However, the left-back missed a great opportunity to put us in front early in the second half when he was through on goal but hit the ball straight at Asmir Begovic. The defensive side of his game was decent this time round – although his poor positioning was arguably to blame for Bournemouth’s goal.
Victor Lindelof – 7
The Sweden international continues his run of fine form for United. He largely kept Callum Wilson quiet for most of the game and was great at playing the ball out from the back when his team were chasing the winner. However, the Swede must begin keeping clean sheets if he is to be considered among the top Premier League centre-backs this season.
Chris Smalling – 7
Smalling needed to make amends for the silly penalty he conceded last week against Everton. Thankfully, he did, as he was fantastic at clearing anything that came into the box and won crucial ariel duels against the formidable Wilson. However, like Lindelof, he needs to be able to stay alert for the full 90 minutes, as our inability to keep clean sheets is getting ridiculous now…
Ashley Young – 8
The make-shift right-back was great once again this week and showed an incredible work rate in his ability to get forward and back at a moments notice throughout the game. This is no easy feat for any fullback, let alone a 33-year-old who spent the majority of his career as a left winger. Even if Antonio Valencia regains his fitness, we expect Young to keep his place in the starting XI for the games to come.
