CONFIRMED TEAM NEWS: Manchester United vs Everton team news compared with RDA writers XI’s

Manchester United take on Everton today at Old Trafford hoping to move on from a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Juventus in the week. But will Jose Mourinho be tempted to make any changes, here’s the confirmed team news.

After naming an unchanged team in the week to face Italian giants Juventus, Jose Mourinho has not gone with the same XI today against Everton.

It was thought after the last league performance being a positive one against Chelsea, Mourinho would continue to persist with that XI. However, it is not something common with Mourinho, often the Portuguese-man makes changes when his team have been caught out by the opposition.

There was a lot of space for the likes of Paulo Dybala to run in behind Nemanja Matic on Tuesday night. Therefore, Mourinho has plucked a three-man midfield today like he did at the start of the season.

It’s clear from this starting XI Jose Mourinho wants a bit more protection in midfield alongside Nemanja Matic. The Serbian has not been in terrific form this season, however, had looked to turn a corner after a solid display against Chelsea.

Although when tested against top opposition in the week, he was caught out. Paulo Dybala of Juventus kept running off his shoulder in between Lindelof and Shaw and Matic failed to track him.

Everton’s Sigurdson may cause similar problems today, hence Mourinho has opted for that extra body in midfield.

The main headline from the lineup is the absence of former-Toffee Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has not scored in his last eight games for United and seems rather sluggish compared to the man who was so dominant at the World Cup and last season.

With Marcus Rashford up top, it gives the youngster a chance to prove himself in what is a massive opportunity. If he can get on the scoresheet today and play well he could secure the centre-forward spot for a run of games. He has to hold the ball up though in order to bring the creativity of Martial and Mata into the game though.

It will mean United won’t be able to be as direct as they have been with Lukaku in the past. Perhaps they can play in behind a bit more, utilising Rashford’s pace, but the main area of threat becomes the cute one-touch passing around the edge of the box. And with Martial and Mata either side of him, if they can work the ball towards Everton’s 18-yard box, both Kurt Zouma and Michael Keane could be in trouble.

How does the lineup compare with our RDA writers predictions?

Ollie Slack

Starting XI: David De Gea, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Fred, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, (433).

I think Jose Mourinho will start Jesse Lingard, an important player who Manchester United have missed a lot over the past few weeks.

Back five to stay the same after some solid performances of late, but I do think Jose Mourinho will bring in cover for Nemanja Matic adding a third midfielder. Maybe Ander Herrera but most likely Fred.

Despite Anthony Martial’s shocker in the week, think Mourinho will stick by him and give him a proper run in the side for a change.

Ali Akbar

Starting XI: David De Gea, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Fred, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, (433).

Fred will likely come in to sure things up in midfield and help shoulder the burden of creating chances alongside Paul Pogba.

Until Diogo Dalot is fully fit, Ashley Young is the preferred choice at right-back ahead of Antonio Valencia due to his crossing ability.

Although some fans want Lukaku to take a rest, there is no way Mourinho will drop his talisman centre-forward. One player who does deserve a rest is Rashford, with Lingard the most likely to replace him on that right-hand side.

Next. After returning to the side recently and putting some good performances, Jose Mourinho should stick with this player, no matter the opposition! - FIND OUT WHO, HERE!. dark
