However, the abysmal showing in the first half cannot be ignored... rnWe don't make it easy for ourselves do we?rnrnYesterday's fixture marked the first time in history that a United team found themselves 2-0 down in ten minutes at Old Trafford . Mourinho loves breaking records, doesn't he?rnrnNevertheless, through sheer grit and determination, the Red Devils managed to make up for the woeful defending in the first half with 3 quick goals in the final 20 minutes of the game to seal the win.rnrnFind out how each player fared under our microscope...rn Goalkeeper rn rn David De Gea – 6 rnAlthough he did concede 2 goals, both can be blamed on the bungling back line ahead of him. The Spaniard also managed a point-blank save against Newcastle's Yoshinori Muto in the first half to keep United in the game.rnrn[nextslide teaser="Defence" /]rnrn rn Defence rn rn Ashley Young – 7 rnAlthough partially at fault for the first goal, the captain managed to redeem himself in the second half with a wonderful cross to Alexis Sanchez to assist his 90th-minute winner.rnrnWe'd still prefer to see our young new signing Diogo Dalot given a run in the Premier League, but for now, Young provides us with much-needed width on the right flank.rn Chris Smalling – 6 rnSmalling continues to be a solid option at centre back this season. However, we cannot ignore the fact that he was nowhere to be seen in either of Newcastle's goals.rnrnHe did manage to keep a clean sheet in the second half though, and we'd still like to see him keep his place in United's upcoming fixture against Chelsea.rn Eric Bailly – 4 rnThe Ivory Coast international was taken off just 19 minutes into the first half when they were trailing 2-0. Although he can't directly be blamed for either of the 2 goals, he still looks like a shadow of the player he was last season, and we don't expect to see him start against Chelsea.rn Luke Shaw – 6 rnAnother positive performance by Shaw ensures that he continues to be our first-choice left-back. Although he did not directly contribute towards any goals, he did manage to provide good cover on the left-hand side to prevent any counterattacks from spoiling our day.rnrn[nextslide teaser="Midfield" /]rnrn rn Midfield rn rn Paul Pogba – 8 rnA mature performance by the Frenchman. He was quite literally all over the pitch, being seen as the furthest forward at times as well as the deepest in defence when his team needed him to be. He also assisted fellow-countryman Anthony Martial's equaliser with a terrific flick. More of this, please.rn Nemanja Matic – 5 rnLike Bailly, Matic has been a shadow of the player he was last season. The Serbian provided little cover for his defence and missed a sitter that could have kickstarted our comeback much earlier in the game.rnrnWe expect him to do better if he is to start against his old team Chelsea after the international break.rn Scott McTominay – 6 rnYou got to feel for McTominay. He rarely gets a chance and when he does he is played out of position. He looked nervous at first when he moved to centre back but did manage to sure things up in the second half. Play him in his preferred position Jose!rnrn[nextslide teaser="Attack" /]rnrn rn Attack rn rn Anthony Martial – 7 rnMartial continues to prove his manager why he should be starting every game. Unlike Marcus Rashford, the Frenchman runs at defenders and causes mayhem for the opposition. He got the crucial equaliser with a nice finish, although he did not create enough chances for his teammates for our liking.rn Romelu Lukaku – 6 rnThe Belgian's goal drought continues as he fails to contribute yet again against a lesser side that were ripe for the taking. He did put in a great cross for Marcus Rashford when he drifted to the right (which was promptly squandered), but we'd rather see our big target man up front where he needs to be.rn Marcus Rashford – 5 rnThe young forward missed two sitters - dragging one header wide of the post and another over the top of the bar - proving once more why he is not good enough to be starting for United week in and week out.rnrn[nextslide teaser="Substitutes" /]rnrn rn Substitutes rn rn Marouane Fellaini – 5 rnThree seasons on and Mourinho still relies on Fellaini to save United from the depths of defeat. This time, apart from keeping the ball rolling, the Belgian did little to warrant a higher rating.rn Juan Mata – 7 rnThe Spanish wizard didn't do much in the first half when he came on to replace Bailly. However, he stepped up after the break to deliver a stunning free-kick to bring United back into the game.rnrnEven in the dying seconds of the match, Mata was still chasing down balls to ensure we secured the win. It's easy to see why he's a fan favourite at the club.rn Alexis Sanchez – 7 rnAlthough we wished he created more chances in the final third for United, the super-sub nevertheless did what was asked of him and came on to provide his side with the winning goal to save the tie (and perhaps Mourinho's job).
