Midfielders

Marouane Fellaini – 9

A stroke of tactical genius from Jose Mourinho to play Marouane Fellaini. Many would have looked at the decision on paper and thought, good call for set-pieces. However, Fellaini’s role in open play was critical.

He played a major role in helping stop Chris Wood hold the ball up, sandwiching the centre-forward along with Smalling and Lindelof.

One of, if not his best performance in a United shirt.

Nemanja Matic – 7

Quietly went about his business in his usual understated manner. A solid performance from the Serbian after a tricky fixture against Tottenham the week previously.

Paul Pogba – 8

A good performance from the Frenchman who continually sprayed the ball out to Luke Shaw in the first half, helping stretch United’s play. Also linked up well with the front three in Lukaku, Sanchez and Lingard, bopping the ball around nonchalantly at times.

Showed his versatility by playing on the counter-attack in the second half, and would have had a few assists to his name had chances been taken. Should have put the game to bed with the penalty though.
