Manchester United season player ratings: Centre-backs
By Ollie Slack
In the next segment of this seasons player ratings, I will be reviewing Manchester United’s centre-backs. Who do you think was United’s best performing centre-half in 2017/18?
Manchester United added Victor Lindelof to their army of central defenders in the summer. Reassuring an already sure lineup of, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo. Mourinho also had Axel Tuanzebe at his disposal but he sent him out on loan to Aston Villa midway through the season.
Only one of the six made more the 30 appearances in what was a disrupted campaign for United centre-halves. Many of them struggled with injuries and faced difficulty playing a consistent amount of games.
However, Manchester United still managed to keep the most clean sheets in the league helping David De Gea to win his first ever Golden Glove award. One man who had plenty to do in achieving those 18 clean sheets, Chris Smalling.
