Former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra had his contract with Marseille terminate today for his pre-match incident last week. And despite the controversy, Manchester United should give him one last shot.

Evra is a Manchester United legend.

He loves the club. Whether he was at Juventus or Marseille, he always held United in the highest regard.

However, in Eric Cantona-esque fashion, Evra has found himself unemployed after kicking a Marseille fan before a match last week.

The French fullback was fined 10,000 Euros and the club released this statement today.

“By mutual agreement, Marseille and Evra have decided to put an end to their partnership. The player’s contract is officially terminated with immediate effect.”

Evra is now once again a free agent. And what better way for the 36-year old to finish his career than at the club that will always be in his heart — Manchester United.

Sure, he’s banned from UEFA competitions for the rest of the season. However, where United could use his experience is in the Premier League.

Evra was a veteran left-back who the club let leave to soon. He was instrumental in getting Juventus to the 2015 Champions League final, and he still has gas left in the tank.

The 36-year old nearly returned to Old Trafford this summer already, and now he could finally do it.

More from Red Devil Armada

“I won’t hide it, I almost went back to Manchester,” said Evra.

“I won’t go into details, but of course I would have loved to play for Mourinho.”

Yes, he’s controversial at the moment. But so was Eric Cantona, and he’s a club legend.

Evra is a fighter. He loves the Red Devils. HE LOVES THIS GAME. Evra was a world-class left-back in his day, and can still bring things to the table.

If you haven’t noticed, United’s left-back spot has been an issue ever since he left. Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmain, and even Ashley Young have all tried to plug the gap.

Why not let the man who opened the void close it once again.

He’s a free agent. He’d be incredibly cheap. He’s beloved by the club, and loved United in return. It makes sense from all points of view and it would be great to Evra in the red kit of United once again.
