2. Marouane Fellaini, Midfielder

The Belgian should never have been signed. He probably wouldn’t have been bought by any manager other than David Moyes.

Fellaini, though, to his credit, has put in some excellent performances for United and starred during Van Gaal’s best run of games in March and April 2015.

The problem, however, is what the 28-year-old ‘symbolises.’ He noticeably slows play down and lacks the technical prowess usually associated with a United player.

Simply put, if United want to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League again, they can’t do that with Fellaini in the team.

Retaining him as an impact player from the bench would make sense, but the Belgian is unlikely to accept a bit-part role. For both parties, a sale this summer is the best way to go.
