Manchester United begin their Premier League campaign against Swansea City tomorrow and Louis Van Gaal announced United have nine players missing through injury.
The Red Devils are looking to get off to a flying start against the Welsh side and the lunchtime kick off could see United go top.
United are without Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans, Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Sam Johnstone for the opener but Van Gaal insists his side are ready.
“My squad is ready,” he said.
“Nine players are injured and I’m not nervous. We have beaten everyone so far but tomorrow is the one that counts.
“We’ve analysed the [Luke Shaw] injury. It is difficult to lay a finger on it but of course there are a lot of reasons.”
Wayne Rooney will captain the side for the first time in a competitive game and will be partnered alongside Darren Fletcher who will start in the centre of midfield with Spanish signing Ander Herrera.
Van Gaal, 63, spoke of his decision to make the England striker captain and admitted his attitude played apart in his choice.
“I’ve made him captain because of his attitude on the pitch and the training ground,” said the Dutchman.
“Not so much outside the pitch, but I’ve told him that is important to me and he’s accepted his responsibility.
“I’ve liked very much how he has trained and performed so far and how he has behaved to his fellow players.
“After Tuesday’s game I joked with him don’t try too hard – let it fly.”
United are expected to play a 3-5-2 formation with Ashley Young left-back and the fit again Rafael at right-back. Javier Hernandez is expected to partner Rooney up front.
Swansea are going to be a threat and new signing Bafetimbi Gomis may partner Wilfried Bony in attack. Ecuador international Jefferson Montero could make his league debut while Lukasz Fabiansi will start in goal.
