Jonny Evans "serious contender" for captaincy

Jonny Evans has emerged a “serious contender” for the vacant Manchester United captaincy according to James Ducker.

‘The Times’ writer revealed this evening that the Northern Ireland defender has mightily impressed Louis Van Gaal on tour and believes he could rival Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney for the captain’s armband permanently.

Evans has impressed with this ability to play out from defence with both feet, while his leadership skills and vocalness during games and in training has caught the eye of the Dutch coach.

At 26 years old the center back is coming into the peak of his powers, meaning he will be able to lead the side for years to come. Evans would also be a popular choice amongst fans having come through the academy and played for United at all levels, making his first team debut way back in 2007.

A true red who loves the club, Evans would make the perfect captain and it now seems he is being genuinely considered by the boss.

Would Evans make a good Manchester United captain? Who do you want to see as captain? Let us know.
