Paddy Crerand sparked a Twitter storm on Monday evening after suggesting Manchester United could make two more signings before the club leave for their US tour on Friday.
Speaking on his show on MUTV during their HD launch, the ex-Man United midfielder made the suggestion that two potential targets could join the Old Trafford club this week.
Crerand said, “It’s possible that United could sign two players before the US tour.”
Crerand has been known for relaying inside info by accident on air, however the Irishman has also been well off the mark on a few occasions.
With Louis van Gaal officially starting work with United on Wednesday following a successful World Cup campaign with his native Holland, it’ possible that potential dealings in the transfer market could begin to accelerate now.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with Germany defender Mats Hummels and Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, although both deals are seemingly still some way off completion. The club have also been linked with Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen in a £12M move as well as several members of the Dutch World Cup squad.
Manchester United will fly out to the USA on Friday before their opening pre-season friendly against LA Galaxy on July 23rd.
