Heavily linked with a move away from the Bernabeu this summer, Argentine midfielder Angel di Maria has made it clear that he wants to leave the club, according to numerous sources in Spain. Manchester United are one of many interested parties, with the skilful winger seen as an ideal signing to bolster the ever-improving United starting XI.

New boss Louis van Gaal has already made two acquisitions this summer, with left back Luke Shaw and central midfielder Ander Herrera joining the club for around £60 million combined. With the current Netherlands coach promised a transfer kitty of around £200 million, there is plenty of wriggle room for more big names to join the side.

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in a summer move for impressive Liverpool teenager Raheem Sterling, after missing out on Koke from rivals Atletico. Ancelotti’s side have slapped a price tag of around £40 million on di Maria, who helped his Argentina side into the last 16 at the World Cup in Brazil.

Di Maria was also an integral part of Real Madrid’s Champions League winning campaign, putting in a number of impressive performances which caught the eye of Europe’s top clubs. United’s league rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are just two of a plethora of clubs linked with a move for the winger, and this latest enlightenment could spark a bidding war between the three.

Real Madrid already have a whole heap of attacking talent, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Jese Rodriguez all rivalling with di Maria for a place in the starting XI. James Rodriguez is expected to join the club in a £40 million deal, with current teammate Falcao also linked with a move to Madrid.

With such an impressive attack at Ancelotti’s disposal, di Maria may have realised that a guaranteed first-team place is hard to come by, which has therefore triggered him to force a move elsewhere.

Louis van Gaal is expected to make at least two more summer transfers, and Manchester United have had problems down the flanks in the last couple of seasons. With Nani, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia all having inconsistent seasons, the only bright spark down the wing has been Belgian prospect Adnan Januzaj.
